This another great way to use a pack of mince & it's easily doubled or even tripled to feed many mouths! If you like things spicy add a pinch of chilli powder to the mince!
Serves 4 Approx £1 per person
Prep time 20 minutes Cooking time 25 minutes
500g beef mince
1 onion, chopped
1 tin chopped tomatoes
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 tsp dried Oregano
1 tsp sugar
a splash of worcestershire sauce
125g ball of mozzarella
30g breadcrumbs (from the freezer is fine!)
salt & pepper
a pinch of sugar
Place a large frying pan over a medium heat then brown the mince in batches. Set aside on some kitchen paper.
Add about 1 tbsp of oil to the pan & cook the onion for 5 minutes. Add the garlic & oregano & cook for another 2 minutes.
Pour in the tomatoes. Fill the tin about ¼ full with water & add to the pan.
Add the sugar & Worcestershire sauce then season with salt & pepper.
Stir well then simmer until thick.
Pre-heat the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas 6.
Add the mince & mix well. Transfer to an ovenproof dish.
Slice the mozzarella & place on top of the mince evenly.
Scatter over the breadcrumbs & season with black pepper.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is browned slightly & bubbling.
