Keema & Potato Curry

Keema means minced meat in Urdu & if you have a pack in your fridge/freezer this recipe is another great way to use it! The tinned potatoes can be kept in your store cupboard & adding them bulks the dish out making it go a little further!


Serves 4    Approx 82p per serving

500g beef mince

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 tbsp tomato puree

1 tbsp curry powder (depending on strength!)

2 tsp dried coriander

1 tin potatoes, drained

30g frozen peas

1 tbsp plain flour

500ml strong beef stock-use 2 cubes!!

Brown the mince in batches in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Set aside on kitchen paper.

Add some oil to the pan & cook the onion for a few minutes, then add the garlic, dried coriander, curry powder & flour. Cook, stirring constantly don't worry it will be dry just keep stirring! Next stir in the tomato puree & cook for another minute.

Add the stock gradually stirring continuously & season with salt & pepper.

Once all the stock is in add the mince & allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Check the seasoning.

Add the potatoes & peas, stir then simmer for a further 15 minutes.
