Garlic Tear & Share Bread

I have taken two of my older recipes & put them together to make this delicious & crowd pleasing tear & share garlic bread!

Approx cost per batch 41p

Prep (inc proving time) 1hr 45 mins Cooking 25 mins (before adding garlic butter)

Level 🍴🍴

Ingredients

450g strong white bread flour

7g sachet dried yeast

1tsp sugar

1½ tsp salt

300ml warm water

extra flour for dusting

You will also need one quantity of Garlic Butter, click here for recipe.

Place the flour, salt, sugar & yeast in a bowl.

Gradually stir in the water then bring it all together with your hands to form a dough.

On a floured work surface knead the dough for about 5-6 minutes until smooth & elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl & leave to rise somewhere warm for about an hour. You want it to double in size.

Remove the dough from the bowl & place on a floured surface again. Give it a couple of quick punches then knead again for about 1 minute. This is called “knocking back” & it's necessary to get all the excess air out of the dough before proving.

Take a square cake tin or baking dish & lightly grease.

Separate the dough into 12 equal pieces & roll into balls. Put the dough balls into the tin, they should be quite close together or just touching.

Cover & leave to rise again for another 30 minutes.

Pre-heat the oven to 180 Fan/200C/Gas 6.

Bake for about 25 minutes until just golden on top. Remove from the oven, don't turn the oven off but turn it down to 140 Fan/160C/Gas 3.

Allow to cool for about 15 minutes then using a small serrated knife make cuts in the top of each roll. Take slices of your garlic butter & push one into each cut.

Cover the tin with foil & put back in the oven for 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven & serve.
