Mrs Winkle talks gadgets, guilty pleasures & a bit of reminiscing at the end...

As I signed off last week you might remember that my bread machine was beeping at me...

There is nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread (cue Hovis ad music- 70's/80's kids will get it) & I regularly find myself trying to resist the urge to slice off the lovely crusty bit, smother it in butter & shove it in my face. Obviously I fail because I'm a normal person..

We decided back in January to finally invest in one, encouraged by an Auntie (thanks Kay!) who swears by hers! After a little research by Mr W it was on it's way & now we have one I honestly wouldn't be without it.

I used to be a bit of a snob when it came to gadgets, but over the years I've come to appreciate & love them, or at least the ones I own! Lets see....

Slow Cooker- Couldn't do without it!

Soup Maker- Didn't know how much I needed one until I had one!

Bread Maker- See above!

Rice Cooker- Don't judge me!

You may notice I haven't mentioned the most recent in popular kitchen helpers...the Air Fryer...

Now I do have one (there she is, on the shelf..) but I'm still trying to get to grips with it & I'm still not convinced about them. Yes, I am fully aware that I am probably in the minority but here we are.

To me there seems to be a fine line between almost cooked & resembling something that's been barbequed for several years....

Or maybe it's just me & I'll never have a stable relationship with my air fryer. I'm no quitter though (well maybe sometimes) & hopefully at some point I will master it! Will it become my favourite though? Unlikely, that's a toss up between the bread maker & slow cooker- DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!!!!

Ok moving on....

In the last few weeks Mr W & I have started a massive sort out of...well...stuff & oh boy do we have a lot of stuff!

If ther's one thing we will never run out of is notebooks & that, dear reader, is because my darling husband has a habit...! At last count we have the grand total of...wait for it (dramatic music) 62!!!

62 flippin notebooks..62!!! Why?! Who needs that many?! Well apparently we do & let me tell you the best bit- now I'm addicted too! I can't walk into a stationary shop (or basically anywhere that sells notebooks) & not have, at the very least, a little look. So yes our ridiculous collection is actually a joint effort, but it's ok, we don't need saving...the photo shows just a VERY small selection!

Do any of you lot have a notebook obsession? (& that does not include the film!) Tell me we're not alone!

I found my old keepsake box too. I haven't looked in it for a very long time & oh boy was that a trip down memory lane!

Everything from old Christmas cards from our dearly missed Grandparents, school reports, concert & theatre tickets to souvenirs from trips & holidays. I've even still got a cassette tape (yes, I'm THAT old!) of my first Christmas carol concert from when I was about 7 or 8. I just need something to play it on now, although I'm not really sure if I want to listen to a bunch of 7/8 year olds annihilating Away in a Manger- maybe that's a memory that doesn't need revisiting!

Another thing I found was some mementos of an amazing trip we took back in 2001. Mr W & I were fortunate enough to travel from London Victoria to Folkestone in Kent on the iconic train The Orient Express!

I will admit to being a bit of a train enthusiast, mainly steam trains, but this was just such a magical experience & one that we often find ourselves reminiscing about.

Being served delicious food by white-gloved waiters while we travelled through the English countryside we felt like Lord & Lady Winkleton on our way back to Winkle Manor!

Pictured are our menus from that day & us as we had our "Champagne on departure"! Look how young & fresh faced we were...!

So, our quest to go through all our worldly goods continues...if you don't hear from me for a few weeks then I'm probably at the bottom of a large pile of notebooks!!

Have a super week,

Love Sarah xxx
